After a lot of hoopla, CAT 2014 results are finally out. This is supposedly to be one of the most scaring and dreadful qualifying exams in India. Total of 1.70 lakh applicants have taken this test this year; and now the result of their hard work and dedication is finally out.
Qualifying this exam means, the applicants have a shot to get admission into 19 of the prestigious IIM’s plus various other top business schools around the country. This year’s result has bought in great news for major of the applicants and the hope to get onto the premier institutes are in the process of being fulfilled. Out of the lot – 16 aspirants even found the source of profound joy by scoring a 100 percentile. This was 8 more than last year who scored 100 percentile. Since 2009 Neha Mangalik was the lone girl topper among those lucky 16.
Rohit Kapoor Convener of CAT 2014 recently stated “There are 16 hundred percentilers that includes a girl candidate. We need women leaders. IIMs have in recent years been trying to make their campuses more inclusive”
After a lot of delay and deliberation – results were finally declared on 27th December. This is one of the most important stepping stone for any MBA aspirant. Anyone who is aspiring to make a mark in the business world – clearing this paper is of prime importance.
This year qualifying students not only have the option of getting into the 13 existing IIM’s but also the 6 new proposed IIM’s, that will start their first session in 2015. This time total number of seats across IIM’s would increase by 300 from 3300 – 3600. This means that 1 out of every 47 CAT applicants would be eligible to get into the IIMS’ which is definitely a better probability that last year which was 1 out of every 52 candidates would get the opportunity to get into the IIM’s.
CAT has always been an ever evolving in terms of their pattern and exam structure. Year 2014 was no different. This year CAT aspirants came across a variety of changes. The question where increase by more than 67% percent while time was reduced by 21% and the applicants had an option of going to and fro between questions. TCS replaced Prometric as CAT’s testing agency and the exam was held on 2 days – which is extremely less compared to last year’s 20 day testing window.
After last year’s issues, this year the officials made sure that the result was error free and students wouldn’t have to face any hassles like last year. Even the result declaration was prompt and upto the mark with no issues. The candidates could log on right after the declaration of the result. Though after sometime the site did lag behind due to the heavy traffic; but eventually every candidate was able to view and download their score cards.
Getting into the IIM’s is a dream of many. Applicants of all ages and backgrounds come to sit for this qualifying exam. Hoping with their fingers crossed that they would be able to crack it and secure a place in the top business institutes of India.
Students who have not only scored a 100 percentile but are also above the cut-off marks would be granted an easy pass for the selection round. But scoring in CAT isn’t enough. This is just a face off for the start of a selection process. This majorly consists of two rounds – PI (Personal Interview) and WAT (Written Ability Test). Students would have to clear these two get a seat in their MBA program for 2015-2017 batch. So clearing CAT doesn’t mean that the game is over, there is a long procedure to undergo to secure that coveted seat in an IIM.
All the best for your future!
